The 151st Psalm

The 151st Psalm

Merciful Father, purge my mind with Thy word so that I may give voice only to Thy thoughts.

Wash me of my own desires that they may not hurt others nor lead me astray.

Guide me with Thy thoughts so that I think may no longer be of myself.

Let all my words be filled with mercy knowing that Thy goodness leads one to repentance--change of heart and mind.

Cause me to know that my life is no more and you have come to fill the void.

Direct my life with wisdom and gentleness that the words of my mouth may bring comfort and not despair.

Let me cease from my own thinking and begin anew in you. Enable me to forget the past and know that it is no more.

Cause me to know that I have lost right to my own desires--that I am Thy Word in this world of darkness and you have promised that I shall not be overcome.

Bring again that holy quietness upon my soul.; let me cease from false striving and enter Thy rest.

Turn my feet away from the paths of the destroyer and my mind from wanting any evil thing.

Cause all my desire to be born of Thee that I may not move in any false way.

Let me not be fooled by the deceiver nor be partaker of his devices but lead me in the paths of uprightness.

Grant thy holy presence to bathe me and may I delight in the surety of Thy truth.

Let me not complain when I cannot have my way; but rejoice that you are caring for my soul.

Turn my eyes from the ways of the flesh and guide my paths from the place of rebellion.

Direct my thoughts so they are continually refreshed and renewed in Thee.

Grant me the understanding of Thy Spirit and wean me from worldly affections.

Bestow upon me the willingness to do Thy will and season my heart with grace.

Set a watch upon my lips that they may glorify Thee only and grant me the strength to refrain from my own way.

Redeem me from my narrow soul and endow me with the generosity of Thy gracious heart.

Enable me to suffer joyfully the spoiling of my goods and to take no further thought for my life.

Grant me to so lose my life in Thee so that mine enemies cannot find me.

Wash me from every remembrance of the old and grant new knowledge and ability to live in the new.

Cause me to rejoice in the light of the day and to know that the darkness shall not cover me.

Let not that which I see disturb my mind, but allow my soul to find its security in Thee.

Turn me aside from the vanities that lie and let my face seek thy mercy continually.

Let not my soul be stirred to false activity, but find its repose in Thee for Thou art my rest.

My soul has turned to thee, oh God, and it is not confounded.

Thou hast led me through the darkness into the light and the shadows are behind me.

My delight is to do Thy will, oh God, for thou hast been my instructor and my guide.

Thou wilt not suffer the souls of Thy saints to perish in their affliction for thou hath redeemed them from their lost estate.

Thou hast taken them to Thy self and they shall wander no more discontent.

Surely there is no end to Thy Psalms, oh God, for there is no end to Thy comfort.

I am comforted because I have gained entrance into Thy heart and the enemy can not touch me.

Amen.
